The Exploration & Production business began in Asia Pacific over a century ago, back in the 1890s, when the first wells were drilled by Shell in Sumatra and Borneo. Recent discoveries in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam provide an aggressive expansion to our portfolio in the region.

Shell Exploration & Production Asia Pacific operates in seven countries - Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Philippines, New Zealand, Australia and Singapore.

We currently have positions available in Miri and Johor, Malaysia.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure execution adherence to the electrical, instrumentation, fire and gas, and telecoms fabrication requirements related directly with performance and procedures, verification and testing of electrical and instrumentation components, process and methods monitoring, and approval of field records, documents, registers and check sheets for project requirement acceptability;
  • To provide guidance and advice to E&I inspectors on the team;
  • Become knowledgeable of the project approved for construction drawings and specifications;
  • Become knowledgeable of the HCT HSES Plan;
  • Become knowledgeable of the Contractor’s Inspection and Test Plan and Quality Procedures;
  • Develop and recommend approval of E&I installation and test procedures, applied fabrication methods, processes and techniques;
  • Perform routine checks to ensure work practices are uniform and consistent throughout all aspects of E&I work fabrication, verification and testing;
  • Review and comment on E&I drawings, specifications, preservation and storage requirements, and commissioning procedures;
  • Identify any potential source of unexpected rework or extra work and recommend mitigation;
  • Verify and monitor the adherence to company approved quality plan and punch list procedures;
  • Verify certification of materials and equipment for area/zone classification;
  • Verify that the Electrical, Instrumentation, Fire and Gas, and Telecoms systems are in accordance with the Classification Society Rules and Regulations
  • Verify, witness and review performance of the contractor’s quality staff;
  • Perform local dimensional checks to verify as built dimensions;
  • Support the efforts on maintenance and preservation of electrical equipment at the construction site;
  • Review construction documentation for completeness and correctness;
  • Review and verify E&I system and component test results;
  • Prepare list of E&I items for inclusion in final punch list;
  • Confirm that technical integrity verification requirements are met;
  • Monitor work for safe work practices;
  • Assure that applicable safe work processes are in place and properly executed;
  • Ensure the safety of self and others through constant observation and intervention;
  • Mentor, train and develop local inspectors to become a successful part of the Gumusut – Kakap Host Construction Team.

Requirements:

  • A minimum Bsc in Engineering with hands on experience on the installation and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems for offshore production facilities;
  • Supervisory experience of craftsmen engaged in the installation of electrical and instrumentation systems for offshore production facilities;
  • 15 years of applicable experience in a similar role, with minimum 3 years experience in Asian shipbuilding yards;
  • Knowledgeable of the following codes/publications: ASTM/API Material Standards, National Electrical Code, ISA and International Electro-technical Commission Standards;
  • Familiar with offshore Oil and Gas E&I Inspection and Fabrication Specifications;
  • Experienced in working with the installation techniques of low and high voltage systems and instrumentation tubing systems for both liquid and gas;
  • Experienced in the technical requirements for the electrical and instrumentation installation in electrically classified areas/zones;
  • Past experience in the construction of a major deepwater FPS is a plus.
  • Strong Documentation skills and competent computer skills;
  • Experienced in the safety requirements and hazards encountered in a fabrication facility.
